Participatory Design & End-User Development – Building Bridges

We invite you to participate and submit a position paper to our half-day workshop on Participatory Design & End-User Development: Building Bridges, which will be held during NordiCHI 2024 in Uppsala, Sweden.

Important dates

  • Jul 22nd, 2024: Submission deadline for position papers
  • Aug 10th, 2024: Notification of acceptance
  • Aug 20th, 2024: NordiCHI Early Bird Registration deadline
  • Sept 5th, 2024: Camera Ready deadline
  • Oct 13th, 2024: PD&EUD 2024 workshop

This workshop aims to connect researchers from Participatory Design (PD) and End-User Development (EUD) communities around involving end users in the design process of software systems. In an interactive setting, participants are invited to share their experiences in researching on, or applying PD and EUD. We will explore in what ways the two fields are related, in what ways they are different, and how we can learn from each other to advance both fields and explore new and emergent themes in their intersection.

We invite you to submit a 6-page position paper in CEUR 1-column format, summarizing your research interests in relation to the workshop topic, as well as a short bio. Position papers will be submitted for publication in CEUR-WS. Subjects of interest for this workshop are, among others:

  1. Experiences in involving end-users in a (meta-)design process
  2. Reports on applying PD or EUD in specific domains (e.g., health, IoT, culture, education)
  3. Applying PD or EUD for human-AI collaboration
  4. Exploring a new research question with respect to PD & EUD

Position papers will be reviewed by the workshop organizers to estimate their fit with the workshop topic and to provide feedback to the author(s).
